Briefly: ratings reflect strength of teams, i.e. ability to score goals. In-totals reflect how many goals are both scored and conceded. In-totals of both strong and weak teams are usually higher than those of medium strength teams.

Ratings and intotals used to have simple explanation in older versions of Odds Wizard (algorithm of 2002):

1. Ratings were computed so that an average balls difference in a single game between two teams was

Diff = HA + RatingH - RatingA

where HA - average home advantage, in balls (typical value for soccer leagues ~0,5); RatingH - rating of home team; RatingA - rating of away team.

Diff used to have also a meaning of the handicap (0 : |Diff|) for positive values of Diff, and (|Diff| : 0) for its negative values.

2. In-total is an average contribution of a given team to the total number of balls in a single game, so that:

Total = IntotalH + IntotalA

where IntotalH - in-total of home team; IntotalA - in-total of away team.

Higher values of in-total were featured by teams with either stronger attack, or weaker defence.

Since 2006, this simple definition is no longer valid after introduction of more sophisticated statistical model. Now both rating and intotal are just indicators of a team's strength, and its ability to score or concede the goals.

Normally you don't need this information in evaluating odds. This is done by the program. However some advanced users may want either to increase or decrease rating of a particular team
in a manual mode.

Hope I answered your question.
